Using GIS to Assess Conservation Management of Salamander Populations

13 01 2010

Article Title: Using a GIS model to asses terrestrial salamander response to alternative forest management plans.

This study combines salamander abundance data with maps generated by GIS to predict the abundance of salamander populations in areas with different timber harvesting forest management plans. The findings of the study indicated that the frequency per decade that an area was harvested had a greater influence on salamander abundance than the pattern of timber harvesting or the distance a harvested area is from an unharvested area with high salamander abundance.
